Lenard James Owens, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 78.
Lenard was born on August 23, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Maxene Jackson Owens and James Henry Owens. He was raised in Delta, Utah and graduated from Delta High School. He attended Utah State University and later graduated from the University of Utah, where he earned degrees in finance and business management.
Lenard served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand and later served in the United States Army reserves.
He married Janet Harris in June 1970 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They shared nearly 56 years of marriage and built a life centered on family and faith.
Lenard worked as a real estate appraiser for many years, running his own business. He was known for his strong work ethic and often remarked that he was busy trying to “get one [appraisal] out.” He served as President of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and received the Appraisal Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his leadership and service.
He loved fly fishing, especially at his cabin in Island Park, Idaho on Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. He also loved sports, especially playing golf, and watching the Aggies with his family. He coached baseball teams and never missed a practice, game, or event for his children.
Lenard was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including as a Bishop and Scoutmaster. He loved serving others and remained close to many of those he served throughout his life.
Lenard is survived by his wife, Janet Owens; his children: Jeffery James (Sara) Owens, Nicole (Noah Hillen) Owens, Heidi (Daniel) Roskelley, and Jordan James Owens; and Josie Owens, his daughter-in-law. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and his sisters Sandra Owens and Marjorie (Douglas) LeBrecque.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister Vonda Maxene Owens and his brother, Vaughn Edwin Owens.
Funeral services will be held Thursday April 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and again on April 2nd from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. All services will be held at the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East, North Logan, Utah.
