Celebration of Life
Logan Golf and Country Club
3:00 - 7:00 pm (Mountain time)
It is with terrible sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Barnard, 30, on February 02, 2026. Lizzie was a life-long resident of Logan and is the daughter of Kim (Thompson) Andersen and Paul Barnard.
Lizzie was born in Logan on June 1st, 1995, and was the fourth of five children. From infancy, she possessed an energy and capacity for compassion that would characterize her life. Never familiar with a good night’s sleep, she nonetheless brought an indefatigable energy to each day, earning her the nickname “Busy Bug” that would stick well into childhood. She spent these early days in play and creation, especially with her sisters and cousin Erica Thompson. Even as a child, Lizzie already had a keen eye for the patterns of life and the natural world. When she wasn’t playing or reading, she could usually be found transforming these observations into drawings, paintings, or letters to loved ones.
As a teenager, Lizzie’s empathy, creative drive, and energy continued to expand. She started and maintained a cupcake business (supplying weddings and other celebrations), developed and honed various artistic talents, and continued her academic growth. After graduating from Logan High School, she considered options from various universities across the country before deciding to stay home and attend USU. While at USU, she studied Political Science with a particular interest in Political Geography. Lizzie was always aware of and concerned by the events of the world, whether in Logan, Cache Valley, the US, or globally. Her empathy for the suffering and needs of others was expansive.
As an adult, Lizzie enjoyed and took pride in her work for Logan City and the value she brought to the community she loved. She found great meaning in supporting local organizations with the Cache Humane Society, CAPSA, and UPR particularly dear to her. Always deeply aware of the needs of those around her, she was quick to summon the energy needed to do what she could to play a part in attending to those needs.
This capacity and depth of empathy eventually grew beyond what her body could well handle. The pace of her artistic production increased even as her body became chronically ailed. In recent years, Lizzie continued to expand her care for others even as she was no longer able to sustain the energy that had once defined her. She loved deeply and her family and friends have been blessed to receive the manifestations and practices of this love. Often unable to heal herself, Lizzie remained undeterred in her desire to the heal the people, places, and lives around her. On Monday, she passed from severe complications related to bacteremia. Her final day was spent surrounded by family and a love befitting that which she put into the world.
Lizzie is survived by her partner and his daughter, her parents, step-parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and step-siblings. We invite everyone to join us at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 7th, from 03:00 – 07:00pm at the Logan Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers – please instead honor her legacy of compassion by donating to the Cache Humane Society. We are comforted in our knowledge that Lizzie now finds a peace equal to her love.
