Obituary for Lois Hancey Jorgensen

Lois Hancey Jorgensen, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on June 13, 2025, surrounded by many loving family members. Lois was born on October 1, 1932 in Hyrum, UT to Conrad and Ethel May (McBride) Hancey. Lois grew up in Hyrum, where she also attended elementary, middle school, and South Cache High School.

Lois married Gary Jorgensen on September 1, 1949 in Hyrum, UT and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Brent, Jeff, and Greg. She and Gary began their married life living in Newton before moving to Salt Lake City in 1954. After 12 wonderful years in Salt Lake they moved the family back to Newton in 1966, where they finished raising their 3 children.

Lois was active in the LDS church and served as a Primary President, Relief Society President, and Temple Worker. Gary and Lois spent many winters in their retirement years working at the LDS temple in St. George and enjoyed many new friendships they developed there. She truly loved people and providing service to others.

Lois is survived by her three sons, Brent (Jeanette), Jeff (Betsy), and Greg (Randi), who all reside in Cache Valley; and by her brother, Boyd (Donna) Hancey of Brigham City, UT. She also has eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lynn, her sisters Colleen, Ellen and Phyllis, her husband, her daughter-in-law, Betsy Jorgensen and her grandson, Brian Jorgensen. Lois loved her family dearly and cherished every moment she could spend with them. She was admired and loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at the Newton City Cemetery on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at noon under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. A private family viewing will be held at the mortuary preceding the graveside service. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the dedicated care and service provided to Lois by her hospice nurse, Rohn Larson while she was under care from hospice.
