Louis Robert Hoppie

August 12, 1952 — July 27, 2025

Richmond

Louis Robert Hoppie, 72, was born August 12, 1952 to Junior Hoppie and Afton Sorenson Hoppie at the LDS Hospital in Logan, UT. He passed away July 27, 2025, surrounded by family at McKay-Dee Hospital, following a motorcycle accident.

Louis attended Park Elementary School and Skyview High School, where he played football.

Louis met the love of his life, Denice Rogers while in high school. They married September 6, 1974 and had 2 children - Junior and Buffy Jo. As a family of 4, they enjoyed doing things outdoors, like camping, hunting, fishing, waterskiing, golf - and, of course, riding Harleys.

Louis was a proud member of the Red Cross for 30 years. He enjoyed helping people in their time of need and was able to serve many places, including New York City after 9/11 and Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, as well as Puerto Rico. He was very proud of the time he spent volunteering for this organization. Any time that there was a natural disaster that the Red Cross assisted - he was the first in line to volunteer.

Firefighting was a calling for Lou. He served as Fire Chief for Richmond City Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He was responsible for starting a First Responder program and offered courses for First Aid and CPR. Serving his community meant the world to Lou and he was very proud of his service.

Louis is survived by his son, Junior (Felicia) Hoppie of Richmond, UT, and daughter, Buffy Jo (Tory) Walker of Green River, WY, his grandchildren - Sierra Hoppie of Franklin, ID, McKayla Hoppie of Franklin, ID, Guy (Jordan) Vandenberg, of Green River, WY, Myckel (Sophia) Andrews of Laramie, WY, Celie Andrews of Green River, WY, McKaden Andrews of Green River WY, and Treyson Walker of Green River, WY. Nancy (Dale) Nielsen of Hyrum, UT and Marilyn (Travis) Moss, of Eugene, OR. Lou is a great-grandfather to - Leo, Bryton, Saylor, and soon-to-be born Taylor. He is also survived by his long time significant other Julie Rivet of Logan, UT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Afton Hoppie, his wife of almost 35 years, Denice Rogers Hoppie, and one granddaughter Chelsea Vandenberg.

The family would like to sincerely thank the amazing staff at the Logan Regional Hospital Emergency Room, Life Flight, and McKay-Dee Intensive Care for their impeccable, generous and compassionate care of Lou during this ordeal. We can never repay the kindness and genuine concern that you showed to both the family and Louis.
