Mamie H. Christiansen passed away on October 14, 2025 with her family by her side.
Mamie was born September 23, 1937 in Panguitch, Utah. She was the daughter of Mary Ellen Tebbs Hatch and Millard Ellis Hatch. She was the sixth of nine children.
Mamie was active in her school, 4H and Church. She won a gold pin as a senior in high school for the highest grades and most activities. She was on the Yearbook committee, a cheer leader, and played the clarinet in the Band. She was involved in 4H for years and often talked about how she and Kathleen Church would work in the morning and then go up to the Court House and sew with their teacher, Flora Bardwell. Mamie won many awards for her sewing projects. She entered the Fair every year and won numerous blue ribbons. She was also a member of the Utah Wool Growers Association and would make clothes and then go there to compete.
After high school, she attended Utah State University on a scholarship and there she met the love of her life, LaGrande. She married LaGrande Z Christiansen in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 21, 1956. They lived in Logan until they moved to Hyrum where they built their home and raised their family. They lived in this home the rest of their lives.
After having two children, Mamie completed her education at Utah State University and then taught 1st and 2nd grade for the next 30 years at Lincoln Elementary. She made friendships there that lasted a lifetime.
Her family and her faith were the most important things in her life and she loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family with all her heart. She was the bedrock of our family. Her family and friends loved to be with her and hear her infectious laugh and enjoy her sense of humor. We will miss her immensely. She was a friend and mentor to many people.
