Marci Hunsaker

Marci Lynn Stowell Hunsaker passed away after a brief illness in Salt Lake City on July 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a kind, thoughtful friend to many.

Born in Logan, Utah on June 21, 1960, Marci was the fifth child of Paul and Lorelie Stowell. Her father, a pediatrician in Logan, served as her bishop during her teenage years. Her mother, a piano teacher, was the primary inspiration for Marci to cultivate her own musical talents.

Marci became a disciplined and gifted musician, proficient on the piano, organ, and cello. During her senior year at Logan High School, she was named a Utah Sterling Scholar, recognizing her excellence in music in a competitive statewide program. She also performed as a cello soloist in Japan with her high school orchestra. Throughout her life, Marci gave organ recitals, served as a faithful ward organist for many years, and willingly and expertly accompanied countless musical performances. An avid reader, she went on to pursue her studies at Utah State University, where she majored in music and English.

Marci married Eric Hunsaker on August 27, 1981 while both were students at Utah State University, uniting a rocket scientist with a scholar, musician, and athlete. Together, they built a happy life with homes in Logan, Utah; Long Beach, California; Ontario, Canada; and Los Gatos, California, which served as their home for 24 years.

An adventurous spirit, Marci traveled the world. As a young teenager, she performed across several European countries. Later, as a young mother, she lived in Canada during Eric’s two-year satellite assignment and subsequently lived in France and England to support his work on another satellite launch project. She truly thrived on meeting new people and immersing herself in new cultures.

Marci’s refined pursuits were balanced by a fierce athleticism- perhaps a survival technique honed while growing up with her older brothers. As an adult, she played competitive singles and doubles tennis, loved carving graceful turns on ski slopes in the winter, and taught women’s exercise classes. Every summer, during the family’s annual trip to Utah for the Stowell reunion, she could be found slicing through the waters of Bear Lake on a slalom water ski.

After earning a master’s degree in library and information science in 2008, Marci worked for 18 years as a research and teaching librarian at San Jose State University near her home in Los Gatos. There, she guided hundreds of students in navigating digital library resources to achieve academic success. She eventually stepped back and left her career to serve as her mother’s primary caregiver from 2020 until Lorelie’s passing in 2023.

Over the past two years, Marci and Eric built a retirement home in a suburb of Tucson, Arizona, looking forward to living near their daughter Emily and her family while making new friends on the pickleball courts. Eric will relocate there in the coming months, where Marci’s presence and loving spirit will be deeply felt and cherished.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marci served diligently in many church callings, including as Relief Society president in two separate congregations and as a lifelong organist and accompanist. Her unwavering testimony and selfless devotion to serving others will continue to inspire her family and friends.

Marci will be dearly missed by her husband, Eric; her children, Joshua (Green Valley, AZ), Ryan & Shani (Roy, UT), and Emily & Casey Curtis (Sahuarita, AZ); and her six beloved granddaughters: Jane, Claire, Clara, Hazel, Lily, and Charlie. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: David & Janet (Park City, UT), Shellie & Jim Christensen (Chino, CA), and Doug & Tana (Cottonwood Heights, UT), as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Marci was preceded in death by her older sister, Launie; her parents, Paul and Lorelie Stowell; and her daughter, Jessica Mae Hunsaker.

Funeral Services: Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah).

Viewing: 9:30 AM

Funeral: 11:00 AM

Interment: Family and close friends will gather for a graveside dedication at the Logan City Cemetery following the service.
