In Loving Memory of Maria de la Luz Garcia
June 5, 1987 – May 13, 2026
With deeply heavy hearts but a lifetime of beautiful memories, we announce the passing of our beloved, Maria de la Luz Garcia, who left us on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. She passed away peacefully at home, wrapped in the profound love of her family, exactly where she wanted to be, after a courageous and graceful battle with an aggressive form of cancer.
Maria was born on June 5, 1987, in the city of Totolmajac, Mexico. At the age of three, she came to the United States, embarking on a journey defined by hard work, resilience, and an unwavering determination to build a beautiful life.
It was here that she met the love of her life, her husband Juan Perez. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and devotion, and were blessed with three beautiful children who were the absolute center of Maria’s world: Margarita Perez Garcia, Mickenlee Perez, and Izaac Perez Garcia. While Maria wore many titles throughout her life, her absolute favorite was "Mom.”
Maria’s heart was too big to limit her care only to her family. For 20+ years, she dedicated her life to taking care of others in the healthcare field. She worked tirelessly to advance her career, starting out as a Medical Assistant (MA) before achieving her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). Maria brought comfort and healing to countless lives on the Med-Surg unit at Logan Regional Hospital, and later found a profound calling at the Cancer Center. It was her time as a caregiver where she met a circle of friends whom she loved deeply and considered a second family.
To know Maria was to know joy. She was a woman who wore a brilliant smile everywhere she went, bringing an infectious positivity into every room, no matter the challenges she faced. She loved the magic of Disney movies, the peace of tending to her garden, and the vibrant energy of family reunions. Maria loved jokes and loved to laugh, finding happiness in the smallest moments.
Above all, Maria was a woman of deep gratitude. She frequently spoke about how incredibly blessed she felt by the wonderful people who crossed her path. Her capacity to love was endless.
