Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Marjorie Cramer, 82, passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2025 in Logan, Utah following an 18 year long ongoing battle with leiomyosarcoma.
Marj was born on November 16, 1942 in Jackson, Michigan to Alan and Catherine Becker. She moved to Hawaii in 1958, graduated from Kailua High School in 1960 and attended the University of Hawaii before moving to the mainland and eventually receiving a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Iowa in 1974. She married David Cramer on September 30, 1972 and together they raised two children, Karen and Jim. They moved to Hyde Park, Utah in 1989 and lived in Cache Valley ever since.
Marj had a lifelong passion for music, having sung with numerous choirs throughout her life, including as a member of the Logan Towne singers for almost 35 years, performed in many operas over the years, and continued to take voice lessons and give recitals into her 80’s. One of her favorite musical experiences was singing with the Hawaiianaires on a 6-week USO tour of the Pacific in 1964.
She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and was active at St. John’s since moving to Logan in 1989. She sang in the choir, faithfully participated in Morning Prayer for decades, worked as Parish Administrator in the 1990’s, and consistently served as a one-woman greeting force, determined to make sure that any visitor who walked through the door knew they were welcomed and valued.
Marj loved cats, a good cup of coffee and any opportunity to visit with people. Her encouraging spirit was infectious, and she leaves a legacy of unconditional love and acceptance for everyone she encountered.
For the last two years of her life, Marj was a resident at Legacy House Assisted Living in Logan. She brought the same positivity and joyful spirit with her there, staying active with activities and building relationships with the other residents and staff.
She was preceded in death by David, her husband of 50 years, who passed away on December 15, 2022, her parents, Alan and Catherine Becker, and her niece Leah Becker. She is survived by her two children, Karen (Bryan) Van Winkle and Jim (Brigitte) Cramer, two grandchildren, Eva (17) and Anna (15) Van Winkle, her brother David (Bobbi) Becker and sister Linda Becker (Ken Dennis), nieces Sherry Hume and Jennifer Karr and nephew Jason Henry.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Marj’s life will be held on August 11, 2025 at 4:00pm with reception to follow at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 85 East 100 North, Logan, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marj’s name to the Logan Pride Center or Cache Community Food Pantry, both causes that were near and dear to her.
