Mary W Ashcroft

September 24, 1931 — March 10, 2024

Hyde Park

Mary Whiting Ashcroft, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, peacefully graduated from this earthly university after a short illness on March 10, 2024, surrounded by family. She was met and escorted away by her husband Wendell who graduated August 12, 2018. They are back together again!  Wendell is her Knight in Shining Armor.

Mary was born to Heber Sanders Whiting and Florence Barnard Whiting on September 24, 1931, and grew up in Smithfield, Utah. She met Wendell in High School, and they were later married in the Logan LDS Temple, she was 17 and he was 19. Wendell joined the Airforce, and they spent the next several years in Amarillo Texas where their first two children were born. After the Airforce they moved back to Hyde Park where over several years they built a home and welcomed their next two children.

Mary was determined that she would live in that home until her last moment in life, she did! There were many family camping trips and rides through the deserts, mountains, and seashore. That included flat tires, good food and tired grumpy kids, some of us getting lost in the sand dunes and getting stuck in the snow and mud. There was also some story about Oreos?

In their later years Mary and Wendell loved to travel. They often got in the car and just headed out driving, only deciding their destination later in the day. They wintered in Yuma, Arizona and St George, Utah as well.

Mary will always be remembered by family and friends for her homemade dinner rolls that even with the recipe cannot be exactly duplicated, though a few have tried. There were also cinnamon rolls, brownies and cookies. (Raisin Filled)

She loved her church and served in many callings including Young Women’s, Relief Society President and Primary. It was not uncommon for us as children to come home from school and find a cake, casserole, or some type of food sitting on the cabinet or in the fridge with a note on top “Do not eat, for funeral or church social.”

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Wendell Ashcroft and her parents Heber and Florence Whiting and a Grandson In-Law Joseph Cannon. She is survived by her brother, John Heber Whiting, her daughter Nancy (Ed) Harris, son Richard (Linda) Ashcroft, son Dale (Kathy) Ashcroft and son Alan (Judy) Ashcroft. Her Grandchildren: Danielle, Marie, Katie, Lisa, Michael, Ian, Brady, Jason and Justin; Her Great-Grandchildren: Malloy, Kyro, Sezja, Sloan, Cameron, Ethan, Kylie, Gunner, Emmalynn, Aria, Coulter, Miles, Alayna, and Jackson.

Over the last few months, she has asked that when she goes, we would cheer her on because she finally made it, so we did!

The family would like to thank Lesli, Elaine and Marissa, Home Health nurses. The Family would also like to thank neighbors and friends who visited her, helped her, listened to her and took care of her, you know who you are, we didn’t dare try to list all your names!
