Max (Mickie) Bunn whom we love dearly passed away July 4, 2026. Max was born November 2, 1939 in Montpelier, Idaho to Max and Utahna Bunn. He married his sweetheart Robert H Johnson on March 17, 1985.
Max loved our great country; he joined the navy when he was 16 years old. By the time it was realized that he was not of age the navy let him stay. He served for 23 years. He served in the cold war and in Vietnam for three years. He served on the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier. He was stationed in Roda, Spain, Newfoundland, Iceland, and on the USS Racine LST. He received a metal for his service in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Medal, the Navy and Marine Corp Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnamese Medal with an attachment of 1960 on it.
While in Saigon, he developed a system where the servicemen could go to Saigon for just one day to reenlist and to get their pay. This saved time and possibly saved the lives of service personnel. After retiring from the Navy, Max worked as an Administrative Assistant for 15 years.
Max had a great love for horses and was a skilled horseman. He was a member of the Hyrum Saddle Club for 15 years. While in the Saddle Club, he helped with the Hyrum Fourth of July rodeo. He took many trips riding his horse in the mountains with his friends and the Hyrum Saddle Club. He sadly had to sell his horses because he could no longer ride them due to Parkinson’s Disease.
Max was a craftsman with leather, where he made reins, bridals, chaps, vests, purses, belts and other decorative items.
Left to cherish the memories of his life is his children Peggy Bannier, Rachel Carpenter (Travis), Max (Mickie) Bunn (Shelly), Garrett Bunn (Amanda), Beverly Timothy (Matthew) and Robert Jones (Tammy). Also his 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his brother Kent and sister Nancy. He is proceeded in death by his sweetheart Roberta, his son David and his parents.
The family would like to thank those who lovingly cared for him.
A celebration of his life will be held at a Graveside Service at the beautiful setting in the Paradise Utah Cemetery.
