Melvin Kent Lott

March 2, 1948 — February 23, 2026

Hyrum

Melvin Kent Lott, 77, of Hyrum, Utah, passed away on February 23, 2026, in Murray, Utah.

Kent was born on March 2, 1948, in Logan, Utah, to Melvin Grant Lott and Lula Buttars Lott. He was raised in Trenton, Utah, and graduated from Sky View High School.

On March 18, 1967, he married the love of his life, Katherine Anderson. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Kent spent the majority of his career working as a maintenance millwright at Thiokol/Autoliv, where he was highly respected for his mechanical skill and strength. During that time, he also taught maintenance classes at Bridgerland Technical College, sharing his knowledge and experience with others. Earlier in his career, he worked as a mechanic at Goodyear.

Standing at 6’4”, Kent was often described as a “gentle giant.” He was even humorously known in the workplace for breaking pliers with his bare hands on more than one occasion. Yet those who knew him best remember not his strength, but his gentleness.

Kent loved his family deeply. He loved the Savior and devoted his life to serving others. He and Katherine faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2015 to 2017. Throughout his life, he served in many church callings and was always willing to quietly help wherever needed.

He grew up attending drag races with his family and maintained a lifelong love for cars and racing. He was known for his quiet service, his encouraging words, and his ability to make people feel seen and important.

Recently, he shared with one of his sons an experience in a grocery store where he felt an interaction had been rushed. It stayed with him. He expressed that he never wanted to move through life without taking time to truly see and minister to others. That was Kent’s heart — intentional, thoughtful, and full of care.

Kent is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine; his children, Michael (Angie) Lott, Jason (Janet) Lott, Bret (Denise) Lott, Ryan Lott, Traci (Shane) Jepsen, Anthony (Naomi) Lott, and Trevor (Brenda) Lott; 29 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Shawn (Ellen) Lott, Shelli Bickmore, Travis (Teri) Lott, and Troy Lott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Grant and Lula Lott; his brothers, Kirt Lott, Brooks Lott, and Bart Lott; and two beloved grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 600 South 200 East, Hyrum, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah, and again prior to the funeral service on Monday from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church.
