It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Merick Spencer Bindrup, who left us far too soon. Born on March 7, 2002, in Logan, Utah, Merick was the beloved son of LaDawna Daniels and Ryan Bindrup.
Merick graduated from Ridgeline High School and went on to receive his associate’s degree from Utah State University. He had a passion for learning, particularly in the German language, which led him to visit Germany and explore the world beyond home. His love for the culture inspired a family tradition, as all the grandkids now affectionately call their grandmother “Oma,” thanks to Merick’s influence.
Merick was the embodiment of an all-American boy—compassionate, adventurous, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a lifelong dream of becoming a Marine, reflecting his deep desire to serve others and his love for his country. His patriotic spirit earned him the affectionate nickname “Mericka” from family and friends. His love for his country was evident in how proudly he waved the American flag and in his admiration for those who served.
Merick also had a deep love for Jeeps and trucks. He spent countless hours working on his vehicles, and his face would light up whenever he talked about it. He loved taking them on the mountain, embodying his adventurous and free spirit.
Despite facing many mental and physical challenges, Merick demonstrated remarkable courage and determination. His ability to “find the good in the crap,” no matter the circumstances, was a testament to his unshakable resilience.
Merick’s love for life was evident in his many passions. He adored the outdoors, spending time fishing, backpacking, and shooting. His knowledge of guns and his passion for shooting were well known, and he loved sharing this hobby with family and friends. He was a young man with big dreams and an even bigger heart. Though his time with us was tragically cut short, his adventurous and resilient spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He lived fully, loved deeply, and made the world a better place simply by being in it.
Merick is survived by his father, Ryan Bindrup; his mother, LaDawna Mortimer (Darrin); his brother, Alex Bindrup (Liz); his sisters, LaNesha Robinette (Brandan) and Krista Combs (Gavin); and his grandparents, Lucille Hadfield, Jay Bindrup, and Owen Daniels (Shayla). Merick was preceded in death by his brother, Corban Bindrup, his grandpa, Kelly Hadfield and grandma Lorraine Gibbs.
A viewing will be held Thursday, September 19th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah, and again on Friday, September 20th, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. (at church), followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Meetinghouse on 1350 Eastridge Dr.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Merrick’s hospice nurse, Aaron, for his compassion and care, as well as the entire Intermountain Hospice team, for their unwavering support and kindness during this difficult time.
