Michael Melt Steele

Michael Steele, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, colleague, and friend, passed away unexpectedly. His life was marked by a deep love for learning, the outdoors, and the many people whose lives he touched through his work and friendships.

Michael found peace in the outdoors, from the snow-covered landscapes of Alaska to the mountains of New Zealand and rugged beauty of Southern Utah. He carried that love of nature into his role as a father, raising his children with an appreciation for the outdoors and a sense of adventure. He created memories with them exploring landscapes and fishing the places he loved.

His pursuit of education and his academic career took him across the country. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Utah State University and his PhD in Child Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas. His passion for learning and his commitment to helping others continued throughout his professional life. Michael served as a professor of Child Clinical Psychology at Washington State University, Auburn University, and Southern Utah University, where he helped design and launch SUU's Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic which serves as a staple clinical training site for doctoral students. As a Child Clinical Psychologist, he worked with countless young people, dedicating his knowledge, compassion, and expertise to helping children and families.

Michael achieved much in his professional life, while also facing personal physical challenges. His life was complex and full, shaped by both accomplishments and struggles, and he will be remembered for the many ways he contributed to the lives of others.

Michael is preceded in death by his brother David Steele. He is survived by his children, Cameron Steele (Micalyn), Samantha Steele (Chris), and Jessica Steele; his parents, Don and Linda Steele; his siblings, Don (Cindy) Steele, Sherrie (Bruce) Boudousquie, his twin sister Nikki (Lynn) Kennington, and Kelly (Rick) Thorne. He was also a cherished uncle, colleague, mentor, and friend to many.

Michael's legacy lives on in his children, in the young people and families he served, in the students he taught, and in the countless memories shared with family and friends. His love of the outdoors, his curiosity and dedication to learning, and the adventures he shared with those he loved will remain a lasting part of his story.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A private graveside service will be held to celebrate Michael’s life.
