Olivia Dawn Turley passed away on September 20, 2025 at the age of 13 with her parents and two sisters by her side.
Olivia, Livie, or Liv was born on May 29, 2012 with only half a heart, She didn’t let that obstacle stop her. After three open-heart surgeries by the age of three she played and laughed as much as any other kid.
Liv found joy in many things. She loved school and took pride in how hard she worked, even joining the SEM program for an added challenge. She was able to participate and win in a multi-school debate with her teammate. In 5th grade Liv was one of 4 students to earn the Hope of America Award. Liv loved her teachers and the many friends she made throughout her education.
Liv also loved music. This meant the Turley household, and sometimes the neighborhood, was rarely silent, whether she was playing the piano, her flute, singing karaoke, or just listening to her favorite hits. Her favorites, from Rachel Platten to favorite movie scores to Disturbed, were constantly on repeat.
Liv found a way to incorporate her love of music into another hobby, dance. She didn’t let her heart condition slow her down and worked her hardest. She had the opportunity to be featured doing tricks due to an almost creepy sort of flexibility (which she often showcased in everyday life to freak people out) and, as the smallest in her company, was usually the key dancer during lifts. She took pride in both of these.
Throughout her life, Liv displayed a courage that many never achieve in this lifetime. In her everyday life she used that bravery to push herself and try out for multiple school plays, competition dance, and even a dance solo which she was never able to perform. Her medical life was filled with appointments, procedures, and decisions that were never easy. She met her health struggles head on and with her signature smile. No matter what the new diagnosis was, no matter what the new treatment was she was willing to do what it took. In August of 2024 she received a new heart that we hoped would give her a second chance. After three amazing months, she was met with the biggest obstacle of all and was diagnosed with a cancer that was a result of the heart transplant. Liv met this new diagnosis with a strength and positivity that was difficult for her family to emulate at times. Her battle included many surgeries, many close calls, and yet she still managed many smiles throughout. Liv fought for and made the most of every minute. We will miss her constant courage and love for life and laughter.
Thank you to the many doctors, nurses, techs, social workers and many more at Primary Children’s Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Institute who fought by our side for the past year. You took care of our Liv when we could not and became family in the process. We love you all.
Livie is survived by her parents, Andrew and Sarah Turley, sisters, Ella and Abigail, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved dearly.
