Pamela Jo Kirkbride Knighton our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday November 23, 2024, at Logan Regional Hospital.
Pam was born October 2, 1962, the oldest of three children born to Franklin Eugene Kirkbride and Lenis Dora Speas Kirkbride. At the age of 13 her parents divorced. This was a difficult period for Pam and after a couple of years her mother sent her to live with the family of her twin sister Lena Clark in Inkom, Idaho. The Clark family was in the process of moving from Stone, Idaho to Inkom; so to get her started in school at Marsh Valley High School right after New Years she stayed at the Knighton home. Their son William was a friend of Jody Clark, Pam’s Cousin. This is where she would meet the young man who would eventually become her husband, partner and eternal companion.
Pam and Clark David Knighton were married on August 24, 1979. After getting married Pam registered for her senior year of High School and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1980. Because of their young age, many thought their marriage wouldn’t last long. Unfortunately, it was cut short at 45 years.
The 2 of them moved to Vernal where Clark had a job. In 1982 Clark was offered a job in Logan, Utah where they move into a small cinder block apartment on Canyon Road in the Islands area. This is where their first Child, David, came home from the hospital on Christmas day. Shortly after they moved down the road to the main floor of a house on Canyon Road. This is where they lived at the time of the birth of their daughter, Bonnie, in September of 1984. In 1985 their small family built a home in North Logan, Utah which they moved into in November, and have lived in until her passing.
Pam enjoyed doing crafts and working in Primary. She also had a job in collections at Budge clinic but eventually went to work in the office of Logan Valley Nursing Home. She eventually became a CNA at Logan Regional Hospital and then transferred to the Behavior Health Unit as a Psych Tech.
Her youngest Child, Matthew was born in 1990. A few years after Matt was born Pam started college at Utah State University while still working at Logan Regional Hospital. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with an emphasis in deafness and deaf culture. She then went on to earn a master’s degree in vocational rehab counseling and obtained a career with the state of Utah in this field in 2000, initially starting in Salt Lake City before transferring to Ogden.
In 2005 she suffered an illness which left her in a coma for 13 days, followed by 3 months in the Sunshine Terrace Physical Rehab facility, about a month in intensive rehab in Salt Lake City, and finally returning home on the day of her first grandson’s birth, August 30th. The illness left her disable and unable to return to work. She eventually saw this as a blessing as she was able to help care for her two oldest grandchildren when David went back to college. She spent many days with Zach and Cailyn and it was one the greatest joy’s of her life.
The last few years of her life she suffered from increasing back pain, migraines, and injuries from falls. She had fusion surgeries of he SI joints and in 2024 suffered a torn ACL, broke 4 metatarsal bones in her left foot, and after a routine surgery, on November 14th, she developed a hernia which caused a bowel blockage, which was repaired but an ulcerated section of bowel gave out and perforated causing a sepsis that she was not able to overcome.
Her loss is felt deeply by all who knew and loved her, but we know that she is no longer in pain and enjoying a happy reunion with relatives and friends who passed before her.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lenis Kirkbride, and her brother, Wendel Kenneth Kirkbrde. She is survived by her stepmother Patricia Roberts, brother David Edwin Kirbride, husband Clark David Knighton. Her Children, David Clark (Shani) Knighton, Bonnie Jean (Ryan) Knighton and Mattew James (Mycalah) Knighton and four grandchildren Zach (Jenna), Caylin, Aiden & Xander Knighton.
