Patty P. Ashton-Loveless, 82, died peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Holladay, Utah. The eldest daughter of Ross H. Plant and Favell Roskelley, Patty was born August 12, 1943 in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, California, where her father served in the military.

The family was raised in Richmond, in Cache County, where Patty gained an early appreciation for music and creative arts.

Patty graduated from North Cache High School (class of ’61), and earned a earned a BS degree from Utah State University in 1965, majoring in English and secondary education. A member of the honor society, Alpha Sigma Nu, Patty was active in student government and campus activities.

Following graduation, Patty served as a staff member for Utah Representative Sherm Lloyd in his Washington, D.C. office. After returning to Salt Lake City, she taught english in the Granite School District for several years.

In later years, Patty worked with local art galleries, and owned Ashton Fine Art, where she focused on supporting Utah artists and placement of their work in homes and businesses.

Patty married M. John Ashton on June 12, 1968 and settled in Salt Lake City. The couple had four beautiful children and remained friends after an amicable divorce. She later married Duane Loveless on June 29, 2011 and settled in Sandy.

Patty enjoyed a life of service, teaching, and learning, but is most well known for her passionate support of the art community. She was a member of the Junior League of Salt Lake City, actively involved with the Utah Heritage Foundation, and a supporter of both the Red Butte Garden and the Salt Lake Art Center. With husband, John, she also participated in and supported many University of Utah events.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Patty served in various ward and stake callings, primarily with the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations.

Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Duane O. Loveless, her parents, and two siblings, Stephen Ross Plant, and Stephanie Edith “Penny” Keeler (Doug). She is survived by her four children, Mike (Jenn), Dave (Amie), Steve (Jennifer), and Annie; and five grandchildren, Ben, Ryan, and Brooke Ashton, and Dexter and Gwen McIntosh, and her sister Peg Ivanyo (Michael).

She will be honored on Wednesday, December 17th, 12:00 noon, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan. Interment will follow at the Richmond City Cemetery. All friends and family are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Patty requests that you spend some time in a fine art gallery, art museum, or donate to your favorite arts foundation or charity.
