Ray Deloy Olsen

November 8, 1945 — July 24, 2025

Hyrum

Ray Deloy Olsen, 79 of Hyrum, Utah, passed away peacefully from complications of age after spending the afternoon visiting with Family and Friends on July 24, 2025.

Ray was born to Ray Delmont and Ivean (Larsen) Olsen on November 8, 1945, in Hyrum, Utah. Ray grew up in Hyrum with older twin brothers Blaine and Dewayne and younger twin sisters Janet and Joan. Ray was told by his dad that he didn't have a twin because his dad couldn't handle two of him, but his dad promised to be like his twin, and he was. Ray grew up hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and working in Northern Utah.

Ray graduated from South Cache High School in 1964, after which he served an LDS mission in Denmark. Following his mission, Ray attended Utah State University, where he learned machining and woodworking.

Ray's life changed the day he received a letter from Ann Thomsen, a woman who had fed him and most of the missionaries in Denmark. Ann mentioned her daughter, Katrina Marie (Tina) Olsen (Thompson), whom my he had met at Ann's house on one occasion, had moved to Idaho, and that they should have a date. When Ray contacted Tina (Katrina), she was engaged to be married; however, she agreed to meet to discuss her mother and Denmark. After what must have been the best first date ever, Tina returned to Idaho and broke off her engagement.

Ray and Tina were married for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on October 12, 1967.

Ray worked to finish up his education, and Tina worked as a nurse. After finding out they were expecting their first child (Annette Olsen Bunce), Ray was drafted to serve in the military in the Vietnam War. After Annette's birth and mere days before his deployment, the military realized that Ray was a skilled machinist and woodworker, and his orders were changed. Instead of infantry in Vietnam, he spent his deployment in Korea building chess sets and furniture for Generals and their wives.

After his honorable discharge, Ray and Tina bought their home in Hyrum and had two more children, John Olsen and Kurt Olsen. Ray spent most of his working years as a machinist and planner at Thiokol. After his retirement, he and Tina ran the LDS Humanitarian Center in Hyrum. They served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 18 months in the Odense, Denmark Mission. Ray has always had a great faith and testimony of the Gospel and served in many callings in the LDS faith, including second counselor to the Bishop, Young Men's president, High Councilor, and more. Ray's faith never floundered right to the end. Some of his last words were about his excitement to see his mother and father again, as well as his Savior.

Ray is preceded in Death by his parents, Ray Delmont and Ivean (Larsen) Olsen, his Grandparents, sister-in-law Bonnie Olsen, and many Uncles and Aunts. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Katrina Marie ( Tina) Olsen (Thompson), His brothers and sisters, Blaine Olsen (DeAnn), Dewayne Olsen, Janet Ward (Kent), and Joan Olson (Wayne). His children Annette Bunce (Gary), John Olsen (Annie), and Kurt Olsen, as well as six grandchildren: Elisabeth Brown (Conor), Cody Olsen (Melissa), Ian Bunce, Mallory Nichols (David), Emma Romo (Christian), Colton Olsen, and three great-grandchildren: Carter Brown, Nora Brown, and Freya Olsen.

The family would like to thank Atlas Hospice, Blacksmith Fork Assisted Living, and VA ComforCare, along with all their staff, for the exceptional care they have provided to Dad and Mom over the years, as well as for their assistance during this difficult time.
