Rex Lamar Tueller passed away on November 26, 2025, and was joyfully reunited with his sweetheart and companion. Rex was born in Logan, Utah on October 12, 1936, to Franklin Benjamen and Rosa Shiffmann Tueller. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Colleen Amussen and Bonnie Seeholzer and a brother, Eugene Tueller, and by his wife, Robinette (Robin) Tueller He is survived by his five children; Anne Chapman (Jason), Robert (Corynne), Michael (Marilee), Kathie Schmid (Steve), Jonathan (Evelyn) and 16 Grandchildren as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
Rex grew up on a farm in Amalga, Utah until in the third grade when the family moved to Logan. He graduated from Logan High School in 1954 and attended Utah State University for two years until he left to serve a mission for his church in the Swiss-Austrian Mission from 1956-1959. After his mission, he toured Europe with Eugene, Bonnie and his cousin Jay Tueller and he, along with Eugene and Bonnie, studied at the famous Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria with the well know conductor and vocal coach, Ferdinand Grossmann from Vienna. Returning to Utah State University he met Robin Curfew as they performed in a musical production and they were married on September 19, 1960, in the Logan LDS Temple.
After graduation and being commissioned an officer in the Medical Service Corp, he entered flight training and served as a Medical Evacuation Helicopter pilot in Texas, Germany and Vietnam. In Vietnam, as “Dustoff 28”, he flew 412 combat missions and evacuated 941 wounded.
Following his return to the U.S., Rex finished his work on two degrees, a master’s and a doctorate in Educational Administration from Utah State University. He was subsequently hired by USU to work in the University Extension program and Continuing Education, retiring after 30 years as the Dean of Continuing Education, responsible for establishing three branch campuses in the Uintah Basin, Tooele and Brigham City as well as five other centers through the state for credit courses and degrees. He also oversaw the Kellogg Center for Continuing Education with its Inn and Conference Center.
After his retirement, Rex and Robin served several missions for the church. They spent two years in the Philippines where he served as the Executive Secretary to the Area Presidency and she as area secretary. Returning home, they immediately accepted a call to establish and run the Regional Church Service Mission Office for Northern Utah, Southern Idaho and Western Wyoming. During their three-year service, they increased the number of service missionaries in the region, from 113 to 285. Next, they served 18 months in the Peoria, Illinois Mission, where Rex served as the mission secretary and Robin as the financial clerk. Rex and Robin also served together as officiators in the Logan LDS Temple for almost 12 years, the last part of their service, for 18 months, was as coordinators.
He and Robin also enjoyed taking trips and cruises to the Holy Land, the Panama Cannel, Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia and New Zealand. While serving with the military in Europe and after retirement, many trips were made throughout Europe, but, as his wife indicated, most all trips ended up in Switzerland regardless of the direction taken.
Rex loved his Savior and the church and served willingly in many positions as a counselor in a bishopric, bishop, high councilman and as ward mission leader. However his favorite callings were that of a gospel doctrine teacher and ward music director, which included conducting the congregational singing at the proper or accelerated tempo. He remained a gospel scholar and voracious reader even when he was not teaching. His children and grandchildren have all appreciated his thoughtful comments and observations (and will also miss his subtle but pointed sense of humor).
Besides the great love he had for his children, grandchildren and other family members. Rex loved classical music and was consistently found enjoying it. Throughout the years and he passed that appreciation along to his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed skiing for many years at Beaver Mountain with children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Lundstrom Park 1st Ward; 1260 N 1600 E Logan Utah. There will be a viewing from 9 – 10:30 AM with the funeral following at 11:00 AM.
