Roger R. Wilson, beloved husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, teacher, and coach, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on March 10, 2026. We appreciate all the staff at Logan Regional Hospital. Our family felt so much love and compassion navigating this trying time.
Roger was born at home in Burley, Idaho, to Harriet Leone Church Wilson (Hattie) and Parley Raymond Wilson (Ray) and was welcomed by his three older brothers whom he loved very much. He was the youngest of the boys and enjoyed playing sports and he worked hard on the farm. He often spoke of fond memories, resting on bales of hay during work breaks while gazing up at the heavens as he pondered life's questions and reflected upon his earthly existence.
Roger was a QB, hitter, and among the all-time scorers in basketball at Burley High. He played football at Utah State and Rick’s College. At Ricks, he was a junior college All-American and excelled in three sports. He was awarded the Ricks Outstanding All Around Athlete Award (Cal Dick Award) 1960-1961. He graduated in 1966 from Utah State with a degree in education and an emphasis in math and physical education. Later, he earned his master’s degree in math education. After college, Roger continued to enjoy athletics, playing fast-pitch softball and basketball for many years and forming lifelong friendships along the way.
Roger was called to serve in the Southern States Mission where his love for the gospel flourished and his rare ability to connect with people gave him the desire to pursue a career in education and coaching. As a coach, he was not only able to teach fundamentals, but more importantly, inspire his players to walk with integrity—you didn’t want to disappoint “coach”.
Roger met his devoted wife, Susan Fuller, at Utah State University while attending church where they developed a wonderful friendship. The two were studying to be educators and were both employed at Logan High when they wed. Susan and Roger dated for three years and eventually married on June 2, 1967, in the Logan Temple. In their later years, Susan and Roger were called to serve a mission working with student wards at Utah State University.
Roger and Susan raised and loved three children unconditionally, giving them the tools needed to become loving parents and good citizens. Roger was so proud of his grandchildren and wanted each of them to know that he fiercely loves them and is proud of who they are.
He taught for 37 years and especially loved coaching. He continued as the golf coach even after retiring from teaching. During his tenure as golf coach at Logan High School, he led the team to win two state championships. Throughout his retirement, he participated in the Men's Association, where he and great friends spent many hours on the golf course. He even got two holes-in-one.
Roger was stalwart and a constant source of strength and goodness. Many people passed through his doors seeking advice, wisdom, guidance, and acceptance. Roger was a great listener and helped others through trials and heartache. One would leave a conversation with him uplifted, wanting to be a better person.
Roger loved the Savior and strived to emulate Him at all times. He had the gift of seeing people the way the Savior sees them. He was devoted to the gospel and lived it by example, never criticizing nor judging others. He radiated pure love and kindness and served faithfully helping others in many callings throughout his life.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and their spouses, Arnold (Annette) and Elwood (Kathleen); and his sister-in-law Carol. He will be deeply missed, but we understand this is temporary and look forward to our reunion.
He is survived by his beautiful sweetheart Susan; his brother Garth; his three children, Todd (Venicia) Wilson, Juli (Travis) Meikle, and Lori (Kory) Potter. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren— Auston (Trinity), Saige (Konnor), Riley (Breckelle), Ethan (Ella), Spencer Roger, Brinley, Jace, Halle and Hattie Sue—and three great grandchildren, Winnie, Gemma, and Bo Roger, with two more on the way.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 12:00 pm at the Mount Logan Stake Center, 565 E 100 S, Logan. A viewing will be held at 10:30 am prior to the services.
An additional evening viewing will be held on Friday, March 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan.
