Scott Ardell Denning

March 4, 1942 — December 18, 2025

Logan

I, Scott Ardell Denning was born on March 4, 1942. I got married on December 15, 1962. Those that knew me know what I did. Those that don’t know me, don’t care. I died on December 18, 2025, because I ran out of breath.

Now we will fill in the blanks…

Scott Ardell Denning, passed away at the age of 83, peacefully and surrounded by his family on December 18, 2025. Scott was born in Logan, Utah on March 4, 1942 to Ardell and Vazale Denning. The family moved to Ogden, Utah then to Butte, Montana when he was five. They then moved from Montana to Afton, Wyoming. His father bought the local grocery store, which had a small bowling alley in the basement. Scott’s first job was taking care of the alley and setting pins.

The family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where Scott was a basketball star in junior high and high school. After he graduated high school in Arizona, he moved back to Logan to attend Utah State University. Scott graduated from USU with a degree in Business and Human Resources. He was a member of the ROTC until he broke his back. His uniform wouldn’t fit over his back brace so they kicked him out. He faithfully attended every USU football and basketball game for 60 years. He loved his Aggies, and anyone else that could beat BYU.

Scott married Cora Merrill on December 15, 1962. They were sealed in the Logan Temple. They had three children, Dawn, Darin, and Dana. They had a great marriage. They teased each other and laughed a lot. They watched their favorite shows together and lots of football. Spending time together laughing and cheering on their teams was their favorite thing. He was an avid reader. He was always reading several books at a time. He loved his wife Cora, so much. He protected her all their years together. He felt so lucky and was so grateful to have her by his side. He recognized the great care she gave him day in and day out as she attended to his every need.

Scott was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings and always brought joy to those he served with.

Scott had an office job after he graduated from college. He did not enjoy sitting in a chair. In fact, he hated it. He decided to become a general contractor. He enjoyed helping so many people in creating beautiful homes and businesses until his health failed him. He was a favorite to all who met him. He loved to get together with his buddies at Angie’s, McDonald’s, or anywhere they could talk, laugh and solve all of the world's problems.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Ardell and Vazale Denning, and his brother Steven.

He is survived by his wonderful, loving wife, Cora, his three children Dawn (Kody), Darin, and Dana. His six grandchildren, Jackie, Anna, Austin, Blake, Taylor, and Karlie; and his twelve great-grandchildren. Each one thought they were his favorite, and truthfully, they were all his favorite. They were the light and love of his life. He is also survived by his little sister, Janice Curtis.
