Sharen Leishman Munk passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, July 9 2026.
She was born on a hot summer day July 17 1931 to Allan B. Leishman and Idonna Balls Leishman of Wellsville, Utah. She was the oldest child with 4 younger brothers that she adored. She has always loved them dearly and had a close relationship with each one of them.
Gary, (Geri) of Hyrum, Nolan, (LeAnn) of Centerville, Dennis, (Janice) of Logan, and Kim (Margene) Leishman of Centerville, Utah.
Sharen attended primary school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High and Seminary.
She worked as a telephone operator for Mt. States.
She fell in love with Kendlith Munk from Benson, Utah and waited for him while he served a 2 year LDS mission. The couple were married on July 19, 1951 and sealed for eternity in the Logan Temple. When they came back from their honeymoon, they found Kens draft notice for the Korean war in the mail. Mom now had two more years to wait for him. She did spend some time in California while he was in the army.
They later bought a farm in Amalga, Utah where they raised five children:
Kena (Wayne) Seamons, of St. George, Shane (Tammy) of Amalga, Sid (Kathryn) of Amalga, Mindee (Barry) McKee of South Jordan, and Darci (Rial) Chew of North Logan, Utah.
She has 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and has enjoyed every moment with each of them. She loved a good party and never missed birthdays, holidays, sleepovers, spook alleys, baptisms, blessings, and special events. They brought her so much joy!
As a mother of five, she instilled values of love, compassion, hard work and honesty. She possessed a zest for life and was always busy cooking, cleaning, sewing, gardening, community work, serving and loving those around her. Throughout her life, she gave unmeasured service to her family, church and community.
She loved participating in the Amalga 24th of July festivities, she created many beautiful floats for parades around the valley, she was the Beautification Chairperson, and helped in cleaning and beautifying the town that she was so proud of. She received the “Outstanding Citizen of Amalga” in 1995.
She held many, many positions in the LDS church and was creative, dependable and diligent in her callings.
She had many hobbies and was always busy. She taught 4-H to several youth groups over 25 years. She loved a challenge and loved to learn. She played the piano and tried different instruments, and at 75 years old she took lessons and learned to play the bagpipes. Cooking was her love language to many. You could always count on her hot rolls, delicious pies and fresh homemade donuts for her Halloween trick or treaters.
She also loved to sew and made many clothes for her family over the years. She liked oil painting, decorating, writing poems and music and loved working on genealogy. She spent many hours quilting and made quilts for all of the grandkids, the last 3 at age 87-88. Every great grandchild was given a crocheted blanket made with love by Grandma Sharen.
She often entertained and fed many lasting close friends. She also hosted several people from other countries to stay in her home. Sharen judged fairs in Weber, Box Elder and Davis counties. She was Bicentenial Chairman and President of Cache Mayors Wives Auxiliary. She attended classes and graduated from LDS Institute in 1983.
Sharen and Ken served a humanitarian mission to Louisiana. She loved helping to care for the young missionaries serving around them. She loved documenting Amalga town history, and wrote a book spotlighting the founding families. She loved writing letters to all of the ward missionaries and did so every month for 10 years.
She loved spending time at the family cabin in Bear Lake. Many years of special memories were created there amongst the crazy chaos and fun times with the rooms full and the floors loaded with grandkids.
Her sweetheart Ken passed away on May 26, 2015 at 85 years old. She missed him terribly, and enjoyed spending lunch once a week with the Senior Citizen group. She served as the Senior Citizen Secretary and helped with many responsibilities. She enjoyed the friendships, camaraderie and giggles every Tuesday.
As a family, we know that she was overjoyed to be with dad, her parents, brothers and friends that have passed on before her. We are so thankful for the many friends and neighbors that she loved dearly that have helped mom out these last few years when she needed more help. Thank You! We appreciate every act of kindness you have shown to our dear mother.
