Obituary

Sharon Arlene Stagg Jones of North Logan was born to Earnest George Stagg and Madge Ione Harper Stagg on July 11th, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Keith W Jones on August 13th, 1959, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had seven children and she was a fulltime Mother and homemaker and later English teacher and school counselor. She grew up with two younger brothers (Bob Stagg and Ted Stagg). She loved her family, chocolate, the gospel of Jesus Christ and reading.

While in high school with a class of over a thousand, the school assigned books to read based on the student’s perceived intelligence and reading level. Sharon was given “War & Peace,” the longest book available to students. Sharon read a lot and usually finished a 400-page book every day. She read to her children daily, and all of them learned to enjoy reading and learning. She can quote almost all Dr. Seuss stories and many others as well. Many of her grandchildren have also enjoyed their grandma reading to them.

Sharon graduated from Brigham Young University and became a junior high English teacher. She loved teaching and the students loved her. She met Keith Jones at a church dance and they were later married. Sharon became a homemaker and the heart of her family.

Once Keith graduated, they moved wherever employment took them. They have lived in Connecticut, Washington, Idaho, California and Utah. Wherever they lived, they shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with their neighbors and friends. A lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Sharon has served in many callings in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary.

Once the kids began leaving home for marriage and missions, Sharon renewed her teaching certificate and was an English teacher at Rigby Idaho High School. Several students described her as their favorite English teacher. She also went back to school and earned a master’s degree in educational psychology from Brigham Young University. She continued to teach English but also was a school counselor. She loved to help young people see their own potential and further their education and training. When she retired as a counselor and a teacher, Sharon and Keith served a full-time mission to North Carolina.

Sharon was promised if she lived faithfully, all her children would graduate from college and be married in the temple. She and Keith were also told by a Bishop that if they faithfully had Family Home Evening, all her children would remain faithful members of the Church. They did as they were told and have seven children who were all married in the temple, graduated college, and are still active in church.

Sharon died on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, at 89 years of age. She is survived by her two brothers: Ted (Pat) Stagg and Bob (Jackie) Stagg, as well as all her seven children: Wendy (Michael) Heimbigner, Gregg (Debbie) Jones, Neil (Tova) Jones, Todd (Lisa) Jones, Tina (Lance) Browning, Bruce (Holly) Jones, and Corey (Rebecca) Jones, 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Jones, and a granddaughter, Nicole Noelle Beagley.

Viewings will be held on Fri, June 5th from 6 - 8 pm and on Sat, June 6th from 9:30 – 10:30 am. The funeral will follow at 11 am on Sat. Viewings and funeral will be held at the church house at 1550 East 1900 North in North Logan, Utah.
