Shirley Marie Gibbs

Paradise

Shirley Marie Gibbs, a devoted homemaker and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at Sunshine Terrace, Logan Utah at the age of 93. Born on November 21, 1932, in Green River Wyoming, the first child of David Eldon Jessop and Verla Irene Jessop Pehrson. 

As a young women Shirley lived in Green River and attended school there, in 1944 her family moved to Millville Utah where she attended Millville schools and South Cache High School. Shirley lived a life defined by love, generosity, and quiet strength. She took great pride in her home and family and created a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome for all who came to visit. Her days were filled with canning, sewing, baking and caring for others, she always wanted to feed and take care of the neighborhood, she had a remarkable way of making people feel special. She always had amazing homemade food but was best known for her homemade bread and sour cream chocolate cake. Through her kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication, she touched countless lives and left an enduring legacy of compassion and love. 

Shirley was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various positions throughout her life. She was a member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers and enjoyed the women she associated with. In 2004-2005 she served a mission with her sweetheart of 69 years in Nauvoo, Illinois. 

Once her family had been raised, she worked at Walker Bank, Bournes and Gossner’s Foods. She married John Clark Gibbs, June 29, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had 7 children and her family was the most important part of her life; she would always stop and take time for everyone no matter what she was involved in. 

Shirley is survived by sons John (Debbie) Gibbs, Bruce Gibbs, Wayne (Trish) Gibbs, daughters Carol (Steve) Wilford, Allyson (Craig) Mendelkow, Molly (Billy) Shuldberg and Louisa Gibbs, she was also blessed with 23 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband; parents; stepfather George Pehrson; sister; Josephine Davis; bother; Charles Jessop, great granddaughter; Dallas Mendelkow, and son in law; David Wengreen. 

The family would like to thank all the nurses, aides and helpers at Sunshine Terrace for all her wonderful care for the last 6 years as well as friends and family for all their love and kindness. 

A viewing will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 10:00-11:30 am. The funeral will begin at 12:00 pm. All services will be held at the Paradise LDS Church, 9060 South 200 West. Interment will be held at the Paradise Cemetery.
