Stephen Anderson

June 14, 1948 — October 22, 2023

Hyrum

Stephen Ellis Anderson of Hyrum, Utah passed away on October 22, 2023 surrounded by his wife and family. Steve was born June 14, 1948 in Ogden, Utah to Jesse and Martha Haste Anderson. He was the youngest of eight children. Growing up in Moab, Utah, Steve spent most of his time adventuring in the desert. He loved to tell the story of his favorite Christmas when he found a broken radio at the junkyard, fixed it, and gave it to himself as a gift. As a devoted member of the Boy Scouts of America, Steve was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

Steve’s athletic abilities were truly remarkable. He was a natural athlete and participated in multiple sports during his time at Grand County High School. Unfortunately, a serious injury during a football game changed his life forever. After a lengthy hospital stay, he was unable to return to school for the rest of that year. His family then moved to Clearfield, Utah where fate led him to Sylvia Brown, who quickly became the love of his life. Steve and Sylvia were married on March 27, 1968 and remained devoted and in love for over 55 years. Together, they raised four incredible sons and created a family legacy that will continue for generations to come.

Steve always put his family first, but that did not stop him from having a successful career in the Strategic Operations division at Thiokol. He poured his heart and soul into his work, and it paid off in spades. His proudest accomplishment was being part of the team that built the first airbag prototype, which was a groundbreaking invention that saved countless lives over the years. Steve received many awards and accolades for his hard work, including Thiokol’s Vice President’s Award and the US Department of Treasury Award for Patriotic Service. His legacy will always be remembered as one of hard work, innovation, and dedication to his craft.

Steve was a man of many talents. He spent his days in his shop, tinkering away on small engines or creating beautiful pieces of woodwork. As soon as you were welcomed into their home, you were given the grand tour of all his creations. Everything from stunning furniture to little trinkets that held much sentimental value. Steve was an avid outdoorsman dragging Sylvia out into the cold early mornings to accompany him on fishing and hunting trips. He was always eager to teach his boys the same life skills. Despite his many accomplishments, Steve was never one to boast or brag. He was a humble man, always putting others first and taking immense pride in his family and the life he had built.

On June 2, 2018, just before his 70th birthday, Steve was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is now with his Heavenly Father, his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and his sons Matthew and Tighe. He is survived by his wife Sylvia; his brothers Bernie and Mert; his sister Leah; his sons and their wives Ryan and Teresa; Colby and Brandi; his nine grandchildren: Sylvia, John, Kylie, Milee, Lyla, Chase, Taci, Addie, and Drake. Steve is now telling his great-granddaughter how “Great and Wondrous” life will be when she is born in February.

Steve will be celebrated at a graveside service on November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hyrum Cemetery, 550 E Main St. Funeral services are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Memories and condolences may be shared and expressed at www.allenmortuaries.com
