Stephen Pinkney Daines, 78, died July 26, 2023 in Provo Utah.
Stephen was born 13 April 1945 in Logan Utah, the son of Newel George and Verna Rainey Daines. The youngest of 11 children, he joined 6 brothers and 4 sisters, and soon had nieces and nephews who were close to his age and became playmates and friends as he grew up in his family's home on the Boulevard where everyone from his large extended family visited, slept over as needed, and shared babies, holidays, Sunday dinners and lots of opinions. Steve attended Logan public schools, graduating from Logan High School in 1963 where he excelled in many areas: sophomore class president, all-state debate champion as a junior, varsity basketball player, and LDS Seminary president his senior year. He served a mission in the Alaska-Canada mission from 1964-1966.
Steve attended Utah State University and George Washington Medical School Washington
D.C. Graduating with honors in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He and his family moved to the Avenues area of Salt Lake City where Steve practiced at LDS Hospital and took wonderful care of many moms and babies. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in his later years served at the Logan Tabernacle in the Family History Center. He was married to Diane Flammer from 1968 to 1986.
Steve is survived by four daughters: Mary, Madison, Lisa, and Amy, and three sons:
Steven, Phillip, and Gordon. He is also survived by four siblings: David, Helen (Harvath), Jonathan and Samuel. He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Beulah (Peterson), Newel Jr, Robert, Janet (McCowin), Patricia (Chadwick) and Paul.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9th at the Logan 5th Ward Chapel (502
East 300 North) at 12pm where Steve worshiped with his family as he grew up. Visitation will begin at
10-30 am and the funeral will be held at noon. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
