Vera Bingham O'Brien

February 3, 1927 — May 11, 2026

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of long time Providence, Utah, resident Vera O’Brien (Bingham) on May 11, 2026. She was the devoted wife of Timothy E. O’Brien (deceased), and the loving mother of Bonnie (deceased), Robert (Linda), Charlie (Susan) and Dennis (deceased).

On February 3, 1927, Vera got off to a great start when she arrived at her parents’ small farmhouse in Linrose, Idaho, six weeks earlier than expected. She was the 9th of the twelve Heber & Emma Bingham children. She loved growing up on the farm, especially when she had the opportunity to drive one of the horse teams pulling the hay wagon or the beet diggers. Her and her brother Carl would get in trouble when they raced the horse teams pulling the beet diggers and clipped off the tops of the sugar beets instead of digging up the entire beet.

She enrolled in a joint program through the William Budge Memorial School of Nursing and Utah State Agricultural College that allowed her to graduate with an RN through the William Budge Memorial School of Nursing in three years and a B.S. Degree in Nursing Arts from USAC at the end of four years. She loved working as a nurse and over the years worked for several doctors, Logan Hospital, and the Sunshine Terrace.

She met her future husband at a five-stake new-years dance at the old armory in Logan when she and one of her friends swapped dates for a few dances. After a bit of convincing, she finally said yes, and she married Timothy E. O’Brien (Tim) on June 29th, 1950. After a quick honeymoon in California, they set up their first home in Logan, Utah.

As their family grew, they quickly needed a bit more room and were able to move into their dream house in Providence in December of 1959.

Vera has always been a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in multiple positions including leader of multiple cub-scout groups including one group that got stuck in the Cub River when trying to ford the river in a 1950s Studebaker pickup. As the Stake Drama Director, she was the writer and director of many roadshows and plays that were done in the 60s and 70s. She served in several Relief Society presidencies and enjoyed working in many different callings with the youth groups.

Vera had strong pioneer roots and was a member of the Elizabeth Mathews Daughters of the Utah Pioneer Camp.

Vera is survived by her brother Carl; her sister Gladys; her sons Robert (Linda); Charlie (Susan); six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Arnold, Heber, Dean, Eldon, Lyman, Fred; sisters Kathryn, Ruth, Lois; husband Tim, daughter Bonnie, and son Dennis.

Funeral arrangements are through Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah. At the request of Vera, only a graveside service will be held. It will be at noon on May 30th at the Logan City Cemetery (southwest corner section).
