Vickie Lynn Gates Jost

October 30, 1949 — January 6, 2022

Vickie Lynn Gates Jost, 72, of Hyde Park, Utah, passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on the evening of January 6, 2022. She was born on October 30, 1949 in Pocatello, ID, a daughter of the late Aha Allen Gates and Dorothy Mae (Doane) Gates. Vickie was married to Randy J. Jost on January 3, 1980 at the Logan Temple, in Logan, UT.

Vickie moved with her family to Gravois Mills, MO, and graduated from Versailles High School in 1968, where she excelled academically. She attended Business College in Kansas City, Mo, and completed its two year program in 6 months. Upon graduation she held several administrative positions. Vickie’s life-long interest in learning continued while living in Herndon, VA, where she attended Northern Virginia Community College and received an associate degree in history. After moving to Las Cruces, NM, she attended New Mexico State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in history, art history and historic preservation. Her last position before she retired was as an administrative assistant in the Graduate School at Utah State University.

Vickie’s numerous interests in life included art, history, architecture, botany, genealogy, and arts and crafts. She had a talent for sewing and quilting, having learned from her mother Dorothy, who was an accomplished seamstress. She was also very interested in travel. One of her favorite TV shows was America’s Castles that featured over 180 historic homes in America. She wanted to visit then all and managed to make it to over a hundred of them. Above her many interests and love of learning and travel, however, was the love Vickie had for her faith and family. Her greatest joy was caring for her children and grandchildren and she took great pride in their accomplishments and success. A voracious correspondent, no birthday, anniversary, or special occasion ever went by without her sending a card or letter to the people who mattered the most to her. Although burdened with many health issues in her later years, she always gave of herself freely to her family, friends, and church community, and touched many lives positively over the course of her life.

Vickie is survived by her husband Randy, her daughters Halie Oyler (Dan) and Emelia Torres (Adam); her sons Thomas Jost (Hope) and Bradley Jost (Janelle); grandchildren Danielle, Zach, Jacob, and Jaden Oyler, and Aidan and Adelaide Jost; her father-in-law Frank Jost Jr., sisters-in-law Donna Jost (Ron) and Cynthia Ruether (Gary); and brother-in-law Randy Helmig (Melissa); and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Vickie was preceded in death by brothers Terry and Lorin, and her sister Janice; maternal grandparents Victor and Minnie (McVey) Doane and paternal grandparents Eugene and Petra (Pedersen) Gates; mother-in-law Linda (Chicowlas) Jost; brothers-in-law Ron Jost and Daniel Creach; and sister-in-law Melissa Helmig.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 15, 2021 at the Hyde Park Stake Center, 535 E 200 S, Hyde Park UT.
