Edward Wade Quinlan, 95, gently slipped through the veil into the waiting arms of his beloved wife on April 20, 2026.
Wade was born in American Falls, ID, on April 10, 1931, to Edward Quinlan and Edna Snow. He graduated from American Falls High School and attended his first year of college at Utah State University in Logan, UT before enlisting in the Air Force to serve our country during the Korean War. Following 4 years of active duty he continued his education at BYU. Wade married Afton Wade on June 10, 1957, in the Logan LDS Temple. He was employed as an accountant at Thiokol Corporation and the young couple soon made their home in Mendon, UT, where they raised 8 children. After the death of his beloved wife, Wade moved to Brigham City, UT.
Wade served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various positions including Home Teacher, High Councilman, and Scout Leader. He took many young men on camping and high adventure activities. He served for many years as a merit badge counselor and continued to staff at Camp Bartlett’s Family Camp each summer as the merit badge counselor for knot tying and checkers. He made hundreds of checker sets and practice ropes, complete with the ends whipped, to give away at camp and other special occasions during the year. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his lifetime of service. Wade and Afton joyfully served in the Logan LDS Temple for 12 years and cherished the friendships they made there. Blessed were the families he was assigned to as their Home Teacher. He made each visit special with his tricks and stories and rarely forgot a birthday. Living the Gospel of Jesus Christ by serving others was a priority in his life. Wade carries with him a deep and abiding testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, forged through life’s joys and sorrows.
Wade lived an active and healthy lifestyle. Even well into his 80’s he could do 100 pushups. He was a hard worker and dug many a trench, fence hole, ditch and drain. The Quinlan property in Mendon became a little piece of heaven for his children, grandchildren and friends. Many family events were held at Grandpa’s Pond with a blazing bonfire and fun on the swings. Wade was a patriot through and through. He loved his country and instilled respect within each of his children for our Armed Service Members and the Flag of the United States of America.
Wade is preceded in death by his wife, Afton, daughters Sarah Marie and Trudy, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is survived by his children: Grant (Julie), Tresa (Andrew), Suzette (Don), Derick (DyAnn), Troy (Rini), Jennilyn (Lane), and Eddie Van (Scott), 35 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews fondly remember Uncle Wade as a childhood family favorite. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Monument Health Pioneer Trail in Brigham City, and Bristol Hospice for the love and kindness shown to our father. Often their visits included a game of checkers, which he always won. To dad, that was the best medicine of all.
Viewing will be held Saturday, May 9, from 10:00-11:45am with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00pm, LDS Meeting House, 20 North 100 West, Mendon, UT. Following the funeral, burial will be in the Mendon City Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you perform a random act of kindness in honor of Wade.
